Janina King - recipient for "2008 Associate of the Year" SilverBirch
Hotels & Resorts
Janina joined the Citadel Halifax in June of 2005 and her hospitality shines every time
she notices a need for assistance! Never one to wait to be asked, this recipient jumps right
in to help wherever it is needed and does it in true lively fashion - doing enthusiastic
on-the-spot site visits for guests without appointments, cleaning rooms when Housekeeping
is in a bind, giving all her guests (internal and external) VVIP service, flipping banquet
space for tight turn-arounds, assisting guests who look lost, filling in for sick calls
on the Front Desk, working MOD shifts during the hectic times of SEDMHA hockey tournaments,
and evening singing farewell to tour groups on the front steps of the hotel! It should be
noted that Janina assists other departments even at the expense of her own personal time - she
often will then spend extra hours to ensure that her own position doesn't suffer.
Janina has been recognized on many occasions by her clients, but one in particular stands
out - a client held a 60th Anniversary Event at the Citadel Halifax in November and they
personally recognized Janina's work as a major factor in the success of this very high profiled
event. Janina is the embodiment of a SilverBirch Champion!
Chef Geoffrey Caswell-Murphy joined The Citadel Halifax Hotel kitchen
team in 2003 and most recently held the role as Executive Sous Chef. Geoffrey is a graduate
of the Culinary Art Institute of Canada and received his Interprovincial Red Seal Certification
in 1998. Mr. Caswell-Murphy joined the SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts Family in 2002 at our
sister property, The Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Ottawa prior to moving back home to Nova Scotia
to begin his career at The Citadel Halifax Hotel.
